Few vacation destinations offer an environment as pure as Bonaire. It is a state of mind whose magic you feel the moment you step off the plane, inhale the fresh air and catch a glimpse of the pure blue sea a short distance from the end of the runway.

Bonaire is the most eastern of the DownWind Islands, located 80 km out of the Venezuelan coast and some 70 km east of Curaçao.

Bonaire's surface area measures 288 km2; peaking at 240.8 meter, the Brandaris stands out as the island's highest structure.

The DownWind Islands exhibit a tropical aride climate, characterized by an average temperature of 28°C, some 350 sunny days per year and an annual rain fall not exceeding 50 cm. The ocean temperature averages around 27°C.

Wind velocity on the island averages 15 m/hr; Bonaire's geographical position puts it outside the region's traditional hurricane routes.

Kralendijk is Bonaire's capital city. The island's official language is Dutch, but people on the streets generally speak Papiamento. English and Spanish are spoken and understood by many of the island's inhabitants, as well.

Bonaire's population measures a moderate 15.000, a very low number when compared with the 165.000 inhabitants of Curaçao, the neighbouring island which oversizes Bonaire by not more than a third.

Bonaire is widely known for its flamingo colonies, its beautiful and genuine natural beauty and splendid coral formations.

At the northeastern margin of the island one finds a coastal area in its original virgin state; here, huge oceanwaves uninterruptedly lash the rocks and shore.

The geography of the southern part of the island is flat. Here one finds Lake Pekel (Dutch for Salty Lake) with its surrounding salt gravings and huge saline piles. The typical slave dwellings reflect the island's social history, while its geography is characterized by beautiful beaches, welcoming and comforting today's visitors.

Kralendijk has been built in semi-colonial style; the place invites to wander around and go out for shopping & dining in its restaurants and bars; no less than two casinos invite visitors to seek their instant fortune.

Apart from these facilities, Bonaire's options to go out and engage into any nightlife scene are scarce.
